1 Craven Hill Gardens

We paid a good price for a clean room, and the shower was good too. The bed felt too hard to me, though, and the room got stuffy unless we opened the window. Since we were on the ground floor, people could then see straight in. It’s handy for getting to Hyde Park on foot, and even Knotting Hill isn’t far. Paddington Station is around 8-10 minutes away. The rooms are small, but that’s pretty normal for London.

I only needed somewhere for less than 12 hours, otherwise I’d have found another place. The bathroom stank of mold and had visible mold all over. There was even a q-tip on the windowsill, so I’m not sure how thoroughly the rooms are cleaned. The location is great, close to Paddington Station but far enough away from the crowds and noise. My room was actually quite large for this area.

We’d booked and paid for the room in advance, but when we arrived without our bank cards, the man at reception turned us away. We offered a contactless security deposit, or to leave our iPhones or car keys, and he still wouldn’t accept it. He gave us no alternative or possible solution. I know it was our fault for forgetting the cards. We’ve run into this issue at another hotel, where a contactless deposit worked, so I don’t understand why a 4 star hotel couldn’t accommodate us. The way the receptionist treated us was really disappointing.

£42 for a night in central London was an amazing price, and the room was lovely. The staff were really accommodating. Chaker at reception was so helpful and took great care of us and our luggage. Amazing hotel, I’d definitely come back 🥰
