Trains to Canary Wharf and Stratford aren't too crowded, and the journey times are pretty decent. Both platforms have lifts, but no escalators. The stairs are a bit steep and get very slippery in the rain. There's a small shop above the station for snacks or sweets. It's opposite Chrisp Street Market, Poplar, which has a lot of different shops. The station structure is open, so it gets cold in winter.
There are three other DLR stations within walking distance: Langdon Park, Poplar and Blackwall. The station opened in 1987 and has seen only minor alterations since. Its platform canopies still have the original blue and red DLR branding, with semi-circular roofs. At street level, the large sloping grey shelter is unremarkable. Both lifts have a single doorway for getting in and out, and those doorways are narrow, which could make things difficult for wheelchair users and passengers with buggies. One good point is that DLR train floors are level with both platforms.
Early morning DLR trains seem to show up whenever they feel like it, so there's no point checking the electronic timetable. TFL, you should do better!
There are two platforms here, one for Stratford and the other for Lewisham/Canary Wharf. The entrance is spacious, a little like Devons road and quite a lot like Bow Church. You can also buy tickets from the machines, and there's a small shop for snacks and bits.
