Alma Rooms

Beautiful pub. I used to drink at the Alma with my grandad and his mate after work down the market, back when it was much narrower. The staff are lovely and welcoming. Brilliant.

Lunch at the pub was really nice, relaxing, good value, and the service was good.

The rooms are well equipped, with a nice bathroom, huge TV, genuinely useful kitchenette and enough seating that you don’t have to sit on the bed. The location is great too. We had a bit of a struggle getting two entry keys because we had different itineraries, but it wasn’t enough to spoil a five-star score. Sleep is why you book a room, and the bedding was awful. The mattresses weren’t good, and the duvet filling had clumped into thick lumps at one edge of each pocket. The pillows were years past their useful life. The bit you’re meant to rest your head and face on for eight hours was an ugly mess of old, sweat-laden clumps. More ick than watching someone eat cottage pie with their mouth open. Throw them away, for goodness’ sake!

Great atmosphere and brilliant service, with cheap drinks and a great range of beers. Outside food is allowed too. Five stars.
