Aaron made the meal especially memorable, he knew the menu well and helped us pick a lovely rhubarb dessert. The fish and chips were delicious and cooked just right. We had a fantastic time and will definitely come back.

The food was a highlight: we both loved our cod and trout dinners, and the desserts too. The music was a little loud for me, but we slept really well afterwards. My husband booked us a Sunday Sleepover last weekend. I already knew how gorgeous the Royal Forest was from bringing my team to perform at its opening. Check-in was friendly and easy, and we were thrilled to get an upgrade. The room was even nicer than expected, with lovely decor, softly glowing bedside lamps, Classic FM playing quietly on the Roberts radio, and a thoughtful selection of macarons and other treats. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you, Team Royal Forest!

The staff were great, and the pub and restaurant itself felt impressive and welcoming. I could happily settle in there for a pint. The menu looked good, but lunch didn't live up to it. Portions felt small for the price, and my fish was overcooked, which I wouldn't expect from a professional kitchen. The staff deserve credit, though the explanation of the treats app offers was so quick that nobody at our table understood what was included. Coming in from the car park, I passed the dog bath and entered through the rear. There was a strong wet-dog smell inside. I'm fine with a dog-friendly pub, but the carpet may need a deep clean or some air purification. It was unpleasant. So it was a mixed visit: I liked the place, staff, and menu, but had concerns about cleanliness and the food's value. I left after a fairly nice lunch and don't feel like returning soon. Maybe my expectations were too high.

The setting around the property and Epping Forest is lovely, and both dinner and breakfast were worth having. Dinner was creative and delicious, with attentive service, while breakfast had a very good selection and service. The room felt cozy and was tastefully decorated. Even the shower was a treat, hot water came through as soon as I turned it on. No waiting out of the spray for it to warm up. The property is well cared for, and they clearly put effort into guests' safety and security overnight. From the moment we arrived, everything was A-plus. Highly recommend it.

Jeff and Aaron were so welcoming and kind, and patiently answered all our questions. The restaurant dinner and breakfast were delicious too. This 1878 cottage has a lot of history, but after the renovation it feels fresh and cozy, with beautiful decor and rooms that still have that cottage feel. Highly recommend!
