Barry House

They made our late arrival much easier. Since we had big suitcases, the receptionist offered us a ground-floor room, and we were pleasantly surprised by how spacious and comfortable it was. The front desk team were lovely throughout, always smiling, polite, friendly, and helpful. They also happily kept our luggage after checkout the next morning, which helped a lot with our day. We really appreciated the care and would stay here again.

The location is excellent, close to Paddington station and Hyde park. My room, though, had a window that wouldn't close because it was so broken. Someone had put tape over the gap, but it wasn't doing much 😂 That made both the insulation and the noise a problem. The shared shower was disappointingly cramped too. It was okay in cool weather, though I can imagine the tiny top-floor room becoming unbearably hot on a hot day.

Being close to Paddington station and the area was the one real upside. For a room that could sleep five, we were given only three towels. The shower had a barrier over just half the tub, so we had to be careful not to splash water onto the floor and slip. A shower curtain would have been enough. I know it's a budget hotel, but guests shouldn't be put in the basement, where staff are cleaning right outside the window. Our room should have been used for maintenance or staff instead. If you book because of the low price, make sure you ask them not to put you downstairs. You'll regret it.

The fast, free WiFi was a plus, and getting around was easy with Paddington train and tube station, Lancaster Gate tube station, and plenty of buses nearby. I've stayed here several times, but this was my first booking since the rooms and facilities were refurbished and updated. It's still a dependable, comfortable little hotel with reasonably priced rooms. In mine, there was a large wardrobe with hangers, plus a hair dryer, portable radiator, and electric fan. There were sockets beside the bed above the tables, and an electric kettle with free coffee, milk, tea, and sugar.
