Beaconsfield Hotel

The room looked nothing like the pictures on booking.com and was shabby, with random marks on the walls and ceiling spotlights hanging down. The electrical work also looked dodgy, with earth wires exposed. They might not have been live, but it made me worry about the rest of the wiring. The soft close mechanism in the room had been disabled, and fire doors on every floor were propped open with door stops, with their soft close mechanisms disabled too. The fire safety notice was unreadable. On the night we stayed, someone kept pounding on the fire escape door through the small hours. For a two star place I expected basic, but the state of things made me feel there could be an accident. I’m posting this as a warning and hope the owners deal with it before anything serious happens. I’ve included photos so people can judge for themselves. I tried contacting the hotel, but nobody answered, and there’s no dedicated reception.

We booked this cheap place because we were going to a concert. When we returned, all our belongings had been taken out of the room. The hotel manager didn’t respond for several hours, then said he’d accidentally given our things to another guest upstairs and refused to let us collect them. After we persuaded him, we got everything back and left early the next morning. I definitely wouldn’t recommend staying here.

It’s a lovely, welcoming place if you want a quiet night’s sleep. The drinks are good and affordable, and you can have a tasty breakfast or lunch in a very English style. A nice spot to spend some time, highly recommended.

The smell of chemicals, a ceiling that looked ready to fall, mold in the shower and dirty sheets were bad enough. There wasn’t a reception either, and drunk Brits were molesting me. What a horrible stay. I need to get myself checked for diseases as soon as possible.
