Belmont Hotel

For £77 for two people with breakfast, this was a really good deal. Breakfast was very good too, and the staff were especially helpful and lovely. The room was basic, but clean, with toiletries and shampoo supplied. The bed was very good.

The receptionist was friendly and helpful, and I liked having a ground-floor room with no stairs to deal with. The room was tiny, but fine for a couple of nights since I only needed somewhere to sleep. The shower had good pressure and got nice and hot.

The staff were kind and let me leave my bags in the office both before check-in and after, which felt secure enough. It was a quiet location, though the door locks made a lot of noise when rooms shut. The room itself was clean enough and cozy, with a comfortable bed, clean linens apart from a few stray hairs, and tea, coffee, soap, a toothbrush, slippers and towels. There was a fan, hairdryer and iron, plus a window I could open when it got warm. The single room was very tight, with just the bed and a tiny table for the kettle. The bed was on a box spring without a frame, which looked cheap and hard to clean properly. There were only two outlets behind the TV, awkwardly placed, and the kettle cord couldn't reach, so I had to hold it up to use it. A longer cord or extension would help. There was just one ceiling light, and a softer lamp would be nicer for reading or relaxing at night. There were no hooks for damp towels or clothes, which were badly needed. The shared bathroom was a floor and a half below, apparently shared with one other room, and was always free when I needed it. It had a secure lock and a frosted window for airflow. It was clean enough, with a small bench and a shelf over the sink, but it needed hooks too. The shower had good pressure and plenty of hot water once it came through. The hand soap had run out, though there were spare small bars. The small sink and tap made filling the kettle or water bottle awkward, so I used my clean tea mug to transfer water. My room was on the top floor, I think the third, up a narrow winding staircase. It wouldn't suit anyone who struggles with stairs or has large luggage, unless they get a lower-floor room. I'd stay again, but adding hooks, better placed outlets and softer lighting would make it much more comfortable, even though I didn't mind the cozy room for a short visit.

The entrance had garbage with rats digging through it, and there was a vagrant sleeping outside. The room was extremely small, and the bathroom shower didn't drain properly. It wasn't clean; I'd give it 2 out of 10. This isn't somewhere anyone would want to stay. I'd give it no stars.
