At Black Jack's, I like standing on the bridge over the canal and taking in the natural beauty. The walk there from South Harefield is full of nature, with canal and lake water and people living on their boats. Cyclists and walkers greet each other with a hello or good morning. KeepSmiling ☺️🌺

There are midges all along the canal towpath, not just in one spot, and we eventually gave up our walk because of them. It’s a beautiful area, and without the midges it would have been a lovely stroll by the water.

The food is to die for, and the staff are both friendly and professional. This canal side pub has a nicely done interior mixing old and modern touches, plus clean, modern toilets. There’s a garden with lovely views too. It can get really busy on weekends, especially when it’s sunny, but it’s a good place to stop for a drink or a meal.

Jack's Mill is a lovely family cafe beside the canal, and the area around it is great for a relaxed walk. We watched the ducks and boats, and it wasn’t too busy. It’s cycle friendly too. Such a memorable spot for a lazy afternoon.

You can sit outdoors at this great tea room and watch the boats go through the lock right in front of you. It’s quite shallow, so they get through fairly quickly. Sometimes you might even get roped in to help open a gate!
