If you’re a woman traveling alone, please think carefully before staying here in summer, especially in the ground-floor room facing the street. During the heatwave, the window would either open fully or just about a centimetre, and there was no way to get enough air at night. I asked the owner, a man, to install the small safety mechanism I’d had in other rooms, but he said he couldn’t do anything and hung up. I also contacted Rochelle. She acknowledged my concern as a lone woman, then said the room was some way above ground level, she’d never had this complaint before, and there was nothing she could do. I’m 162 cm and could easily climb in from outside. I was scared for my safety and health, had a panic attack one night, and felt trapped in the heat without air. I don’t know how I got through it. I was also left without arrival instructions or a code on the day I checked in. I had to send lots of messages and call the owner to get in. For a week’s stay, I was given one towel. Just one, when I’d normally expect separate ones for feet, body and hands. I paid a lot for a stay with so many serious problems. At 2 am, noise and music from black people also surprised me. In my last photo, you can see a bottle standing inside, viewed from outside. I often stay on ground floors and have never had issues like this. The owners don’t deserve your money. The area itself was lovely and nostalgic, very cinematic. Supermarkets, bus stops and tube stations are nearby. I also realized by chance that this was the street in Blur’s “Beetlebum” video, and you can see the same building from the window. I love Blur, though I’d never watched the whole video before. Maybe it would be fine in another season, but the experience in the heatwave was awful.
