I was completely shocked by this experience. I booked an apartment through booking.com, and the terms said guests had to live more than 10 miles away. That was fine since I live in Cheshunt, 46 miles away. On my way to the property, they texted asking for a deposit and said I had to live outside a 20-mile radius. Still no problem, since I'm 46 miles away. Then another text said the booking had been cancelled because I needed to live more than 25 miles away. I couldn't understand which rule applied, or why I was cancelled when Cheshunt is so far away. I called and told the man I live in Cheshunt. He still said the cancellation was because it “makes things easier for them.” I emailed them the terms showing the 10-mile rule, then called again. I don't see how this should have affected me at all. The man said he was the manager, though I find that hard to believe. He was rude and unhelpful, talked over me, and wouldn't explain how to get my money back. After I pointed out that he wasn't letting me ask about a refund, he hung up. Terrible service, not worth the bother. I guess they don't want to make money!
