Charlotte Guest House

The room itself was clean and modest, smaller than an average hotel room but not tiny. The nearby station made it easy to get around, and the 25% discount at Lola’s nearby was a nice bonus. I'd recommend Charlotte Guest House to able-bodied solo travelers or couples without a car who want budget-friendly accommodation in London. Parking was the part I wish I'd researched more. We knew Charlotte Guest House was spread across different properties, so that wasn't a surprise. But when we arrived, we learned we couldn't park on the road by our building because it was very expensive. Instead, we had to park several blocks away, about a 7-10 minute walk depending on luggage, on a street where payment was only needed from 10am to noon. After driving from Bath to London, we were already tired, so it was a rough welcome. Then we carried our bags up to the fourth floor because there was no lift. I appreciated that an employee stayed late to check us in, though. He was nice and helped with the luggage. We also had a stressful mix-up the day before, while we were on our way to our hotel in bath. Charlotte Guest House called to ask our arrival time. I said our booking started the next night and we wouldn't check in until then. They insisted it was for that night and the next, and said we'd need to pay for an extra night because we'd booked a non-refundable rate. I agreed since I had no other option at the time and was driving, so I couldn't check my confirmation email. Later, I found it and sent proof that my dates were right, though their system had shown different ones. Thankfully, they corrected it and didn't charge us another night.

Getting in and out was straightforward, and the staff were ready to help. The room was spacious enough, spotless, and cleaned daily. It's in a good area with lots of shops, about a five-minute walk from the Underground and right beside the trains.

For what I need when working long shifts in London, Charlotte Guest House was a great fit: affordable and still a good standard. The small loft-conversion room was lovely, and the single bed was super comfortable. I slept really well. The whole place felt clean and well kept, with high standards, and it smelled fresh too, which isn't always the case in guest houses. It's in a pleasant part of London, with plenty of shops and restaurants just a short walk away. Check-in was easy to follow and well explained, even though I arrived late and didn't see any staff. There's also a deal with a cafe at the end of the road: 25% off breakfast if you go before a certain time. I like that idea, and it says a lot about the owner's initiative. The TV signal wasn't working, but that didn't bother me much since I watch things on my iPad. I wouldn't take points off for it. A fantastic place to stay at a brilliant price. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it.

After a run of bad stays, finding Charlotte guest house was such a relief. 11/10, I had the best stay, with great staff and loads of quality for a really affordable price. I'm staying again next week.
