Chester Hotel

The price makes sense for a spot right in the city centre, but the room and service quality clearly fall short. We booked a double bed with a private bathroom, and the room was in the basement. It had a window overlooking the hotel hall, which was quite a view :) The room was really hot, and even the fan didn’t help. If there are two of you, only the passport of the person who booked is needed, even if they’ll arrive the next day.

The hotel is handy for Victoria Station, but the Single Basic Room with Shared Bathroom needs a lot more maintenance and care. There were no windows and the room felt very bare, with only a partial level of cleanliness. Poor ventilation left it smelling damp, and little seems to have been done to make it more appealing. The shared bathroom was very basic too, with nowhere to hang towels or put a change of clothes.

The staff were super friendly, and the front desk kept our bags before check-in so we could go for a walk and visit the pub. We stayed one night in a superior double with an en suite, and it was fine for the price. The sheets and bathroom were clean, though the carpets, curtains, and some furniture could use an update. The interior is dated and scuffed in places, but it’s an old building, so that happens. Some of the bad reviews seem a bit dramatic. It was hot in our room, though having a fan helped.

The staff were really nice, and the room was clean. They provide tea, coffee, and milk, and there are lots of restaurants nearby. Victoria Station is about a seven-minute walk away. We’ll definitely stay here again when we come back.
