It’s in a quieter part of the area, with South Kensington and Gloucester Road stations within walking distance. Hyde Park is only a few blocks away if you want a morning stroll or run. I was there for personal matters in South Kensington; otherwise, I’d have picked somewhere else. The property needs upgrading and fell short of what I expected from an Ascott group property. The water heater took ages to reach the temperature I wanted, and I got a bit burned while trying different settings. Neither the toilet nor kitchen sink drained at a normal speed. When we reported it, the person at reception smirked and tried to explain the drain lever. We’d already tried it, and wouldn’t have complained if it worked properly.

The staff were nice, which is why I’m giving it two stars. Apartment 208 looked worn out and really needs renovating. There was a persistent old cooking oil smell from the ground-floor kitchen, even with the window shut all day. The place looks much better in the photos. You can see the extractor fan through the lower part of the window.

The room was spacious, and the staff were really helpful. They even left complimentary water and cookies, which I appreciated. The location was great too, close to Gloucester Rd tube station and plenty of cafés and restaurants.

The front desk staff were so friendly and made an effort to chat with us. Our extra bed turned out to be as good as the queen size one. I liked the hotel’s design, and the underground station was nearby, with plenty of places to eat around it. The rooms were great too.

There’s a small gym, and the hotel is handy for shops, restaurants and the tube. Room sizes vary, though. They don’t service the rooms daily.
