City Gate Kensington

The location is nice, and the host replied by text. The apartment and bathroom were extremely small, with barely any room for suitcases. There's no air conditioning or window lock, and no tea or coffee facilities or reception. The shower drain doesn't work properly, so water floods over your feet while you shower. It feels more like an Airbnb than a hotel, but could suit one or two people for a couple of nights.

The flat was dusty all over, and the towels were dirty. After my shower, I found loads of long black hairs on myself, and when I bent down to pick up my hairbrush, I saw a huge hair covered in dust. There was also a little spider beside my bed. The place looked as if no one had vacuumed. The shower leaked, and the bath mat was wet too. I wondered if someone had used the toilet. WiFi didn't work, so we couldn't get online at all, though luckily we'd bought internet beforehand. Getting in was easy thanks to the instructions, but then things went wrong. We arrived at 8 pm for flat 11, and the key box was open when we went to get our keys. The owner didn't answer our calls. After waiting 20 minutes, we got a text saying our flat was number 10. I didn't get the room I'd paid for. It was a big mistake.

I booked this room for guests visiting from abroad, a couple with a child, and everyone seemed happy. The little boy liked the stairs up to the bed on the second level, while his parents were impressed by how nicely such a small space was organised. It was lovely, very clean, and had fresh utilities. The area had a lovely historic feel, though you could hear planes overhead. Inside, the place was small, but it had everything it should: clean towels, a perfect bed, toiletries, a little kitchen and the other handy amenities. I loved it.
