City Inn Russell Square

Good area, with Tottenham Court Rd and Kings Cross within walking distance. It’s fine for one night and has what you need, as long as you’re not expecting anything beyond that.

The location was the strongest point, and getting into the room through the self check-in was easy. Service was adequate and we had no access problems. But this converted building felt much more like a one or two star place than the three stars it was meant to be, with a very worn room and especially tired bathroom. Next time I’m in London, I’ll pay a little more for a proper hotel.

We arrived to find a dirty bed and had to wait for someone to come and change it. There’s no reception after 5pm, and we got no help when my disabled husband fell. They blamed him. The rooms were dirty, paint was peeling and the lamp was loose and wobbly. Since raising the issues, we’ve had no reply.

The rooms are small, and there’s no lift, so we had to climb three floors. Still, it was adequate, and the location is great.
