Dockside Hotel

We had booked and paid in advance, but the receptionist said we hadn't paid, got aggressive, ripped up our confirmation and refused to serve us. We were two young girls with nowhere to go, until thankfully we found somewhere much more accommodating. I wouldn't even give this place one star.

It's tired and mouldy, with the look of a ship that's a little too close to sinking. Still, it's cheap and gives you what you need: a bed. If budget is the priority, it does the job. Looking for a palace? Try somewhere else.

This is a budget hotel that offers good value, and the location makes it easy to get around the city. Our room was clean, the bed comfortable and the towels good. The mini fridge and tea and coffee facilities were nice, and pre-stay communication was good. Check-in was pleasant and efficient. Cora in the breakfast room is a real asset, such a lovely smile in the morning. It would help to have a way to enter the hotel with a key, since the night guy isn't always there and can be grumpy. Waiting to get the room key isn't great. Maybe a keypad would work if they don't want to hand out keys. Our friends live nearby, so we'd stay again, though I'd try for one of the bigger rooms.

I booked through booking.com and the hotel raised the issue with the hotel, but they refused to refund the last night I didn't stay. I was meant to stay an extra night, but checked out early because of how awful it was. The room was incredibly mouldy and stank, there wasn't proper ventilation, and springs were coming out of the mattresses. Most of the breakfast options tasted sour. The reception guy was nice, though. When I got home, I started itching everywhere the next day. Honest, open review of my July 2025 stay.
