The fundraising event was for a great cause, and some very high-profile former managers were there. Everyone had a great night, with live music from a lovely string quartet and pianist. Dinner was in studio one, with the theme 'surprise suprise' The Beatles. We also saw actual footage of Cilla Black's recording of Alfie, which explains the intended pun in the previous sentence. It was my first visit inside Abbey Road Studios, though I’d passed the venue and famous zebra crossing many times. I wasn’t disappointed. We were given an audio and visual history of the studio, and I even got a souvenir photo on the mocked-up zebra crossing inside.
The area has that classic London feel, calm and elegant, and the building is instantly recognizable. Outside Abbey Road, there’s no big sign or overdone fanfare, just a beautiful red-brick building quietly holding decades of history. If you’ve ever loved music, the feeling around it is unmistakable, like you can almost sense what’s been made there. It’s worth stopping by whether you’re a musician or simply grew up loving real instruments and the warmth of tape.
Beetle studio London is a beautiful place, like a museum. If you haven’t seen this place, you’re missing something. You must visit, and the food is brilliant too. After we finished at the museum, we went for lunch. I really recommend the nearby restaurants and bar, including loads cricket ground and Sherlock Holmes Sri Lankan food cyclone 1948.
The place is surprisingly understated for somewhere so legendary. If you’re a fan of The Beatles or Pink Floyd, there’s a pretty nice gift shop in the building.
The Christmas concert in Studio 2 at Abbey Road Studios was a real treat for any music fan. A string quartet performed in a space known largely through The Beatles, but its history also includes pop, rock and classical artists, plus film and TV music dating back to the 1930's. This Christ me as event has only been held for the second time.
