I stayed in a Silver Studio at Chapter South Bank and paid approximately £640 per week. For that sort of money, I expected much better. I only made it through my contract because I’d already paid for the year, and I can’t recommend living here. IQ residences are worth looking at, and renting a private apartment may be a much better experience. The building has ongoing problems, including water outages, fire alarms going off for no reason, broken toilets, odd noises from showers, and maintenance issues all over. Getting anything fixed can take one or two weeks, if anyone comes at all. My room door stopped closing properly, which was an obvious security risk. I reported it twice and was told someone would come Monday, but nobody showed up. I spent days with a door that wouldn’t close properly. Staff were often unhelpful and sometimes rude. Picking up a parcel could turn into a struggle. More than once, I was told a package hadn’t arrived without anyone properly checking. The eye-rolling and dismissive manner made basic questions feel like an inconvenience. The rooftop terrace is often closed for maintenance. Residents lost access for several months this year alone, and when it is open, the facilities aren’t in great shape. The foosball table is broken, the TV is often out of order, and maintenance overall falls short of what the price suggests. Laundry rooms are rarely cleaned properly, and the machines are often dirty. Friends have complained about broken fridges, excessive ice buildup, and ignored requests unless they chase staff repeatedly. Sometimes it takes three or four complaints just to get an acknowledgment. On moving out, residents are charged a £50 cleaning fee, which feels insulting given the standard of maintenance during the year. Chapter South Bank might be fine for a few days, but for students living there long term it’s one of the most frustrating accommodation experiences imaginable.

I stayed here for 10 nights and found the staff friendly and ready to help. Before a short trip to Paris, I was worried about carrying my large suitcase, but they helped me sort it out so I could continue my journey smoothly. I’m very grateful. The location is incredibly convenient. It’s a 3-5 minute walk to the subway station, with famous sights nearby. Tate Modern is 2-3 minutes down the same street, and from there the Millennium Bridge leads across to St. Paul's Cathedral. You can also reach plenty of other landmarks along the Thames. The room was comfortable too. I’d definitely choose this place again if I return to London.

I stayed in an en-suite at Chapter Southbank in 2020-2021 while doing my Masters in London. My room was on the Great Suffolk side, with a view of the London Eye from bed. It wasn’t large, but had the furniture you need in a dorm. The shared living room and kitchen were cleaned by Chapter once a month, and there was enough space to watch telly while cooking or chat with flatmates. One block has a rooftop with TVs, lounge areas, outdoor tanning beds, and a stunning view. There’s also a study hall and a gym. The location is hard to beat, about five minutes from Southwark station, ten minutes from Bank for a nice walk, and fifteen minutes from London bridge and borough market. It’s pricey, but those are central London rates and you won’t find much better in that location. The staff were exceptionally lovely during COVID and ready to help. There’s a mix of Masters and bachelor’s students, including a lot from Kings and LSE. I’d especially recommend it to bachelor’s students.

We stayed four nights, and although the first day was okay, things quickly became stressful. The room was very hot and had a tiny window, though a fan was provided, so it wasn’t too bad. We also couldn’t fully close the bathroom door. On day two, the toilet water wouldn’t stop running, but that was fixed the same day. Then on the third day we woke up to a flooded room. We were moved to another room that day, but our things had water damage and no compensation was offered. The shower in the new room was stuck at a very hot temperature, so we couldn’t adjust the water. After checkout, we asked to leave our suitcase for three hours and were told no, even though the day before we’d had to leave our bags in storage during the mandatory room change. Some staff were kind and quick to fix problems, but the overall experience was nothing but stressful.

After three years living at Chapter Southbank and visiting plenty of student halls around London, I’m confident calling it the best student accommodation in the city. The sky garden is a great social space, and the location is brilliant, right by Tate Modern and a five-minute walk from the Jubilee line station. The management and maintenance teams are extremely friendly and cooperative too. I’m always happy to recommend Chapter Southbank to family and friends.
