We had a really nice stay above the pub, and the food was just as good. My first-night Fish & Chips was a must-try, especially with their amazing tartar sauce. I wish I could find that flavor back in the States. Breakfast was delicious too, and it seems hard to go wrong with the menu. Our friends had the roast, which delivered on flavor and could probably be shared between two. Sorry, no photos. It's also not far from public transport, so if you're in the area, give it a try.

After meeting up with my brother, I tried the Fox & Anchor for Sunday lunch for the first time. The Fox's roast was one of the best Sunday lunches I've had. There was more than I could finish, and at £31 it felt good value. The Chablis went well with it.

A characterful Victorian pub tucked beside Clerkenwell Square, between Farringdon and Barbican. It's full of books and booths along a long bar, with a good ale selection, though three ales weren't on during my last visit. The bar snacks are excellent and there's a full menu too. If using public transport, take the Elizabeth line and use the Barbican exit. Recommended.

We all loved our roasts at Fox and Anchor. I had the vegetarian one, while my friends chose beef and pork, and we were blown away by all of them. The portions were generous, with lots of vegetables and a huge Yorkshire pudding. At £20 - £24 per person, it's very reasonably priced. One of the best roasts I've had in London, and we'll be back.

The Sunday roast was divine, and the food was so good that I'd come back and give the place another try. I may just have caught it on an off day, as I've heard plenty of good things and this could have been just one moment. The room we got, though, looked unfinished and had little character. The main room is beautiful, so the difference between the two spaces was stark. We also waited almost 20 minutes to be seated while staff kept asking where the person in charge of seating was. Three people were at the bar waiting around, saying someone would come, but no one seemed to take charge. A little common sense would have helped. Mixed feelings, but hopefully next time goes better.
