Generator London

The atmosphere was good and the stay was comfortable. My only real issue was that we couldn't get water, and the kitchen wasn't available around the clock like it is in some other hostels. Having access to water would be a great addition.

Joao was especially kind, always cheerful, and genuinely ready to help. That personal touch made me feel at home, and the rest of the crew were friendly and helpful too. Generator Hostel in London had such an upbeat, welcoming feel from the moment I arrived. I had an amazing time and would happily stay there again. I'd recommend it to anyone visiting London, whatever their age.

The bar manager is the one bright spot. He works incredibly hard and is lovely. I don't blame the staff for the state of things, but the owner is a disgrace. Upstairs was unbearably hot, while the bar air conditioning felt cold enough for penguins. The rooms have poor airflow, the windows barely open, and there are no sockets near the bed. My private room for two felt like a sauna. The wet-room bathroom had no ventilation, so the floor stayed so soaked after a shower that I had to put shoes on to go back in. I asked three times for toilet paper and was told it would come, but it never did. We had to buy tissues ourselves. The cleaners didn't empty the bin or replace towels, though they did make the bed. There's just one lift, and it doesn't work properly. A steep ramp and a faulty lift don't add up to the disabled access they claim to provide. The place feels set up to take money from tourists once, since nobody would come back.

Junior at reception was so friendly with me and my friends, and manager Adam was just as lovely. They even gave us Easter eggs, which was incredibly nice. Everything felt really clean, from the spotless room and fresh, hotel-like sheets to the good-sized bathroom. The showers were great, with enough room to hang our things, and every room has a secure locker box so I could leave my belongings and go out without worrying. This is the best hostel I've stayed at so far. I can't wait to return to London and stay at Generator Hostel London again.
