Grange Beauchamp

The room was a good size, and our bed was comfortable, though the pillows were a little hard. We had a quiet garden view from the window, looking out towards the BT tower. The room was too hot, so we turned off the heating and opened the windows. There were only three unused sockets, which was awkward sharing with a teenager. The bath was very narrow, even for my daughter and me, and we're not big. The room also felt tired and could use some care. The staff were very nice, the location was good, and I'd recommend it. We booked the superior double through booking.com. We didn't eat at the restaurant.

We still had fun on our vacation, since we hadn't planned to spend much time in the room, but I wouldn't stay here again. Breakfast was extremely mid, and the basement room was run down, seemed a little dirty, and needed a lot of repairs and maintenance. It was also very cold. We needed maintenance twice, a space heater, and extra blankets. I was there for a few nights with my mother. She had asked for a garden-view room when booking, but on arrival we were told we'd been put in the basement because all the rooms with two beds were there. Looking at other photos and reviews, that explanation is clearly false. The lobby directly above us and workers doing jobs downstairs made the basement rooms extremely loud. The men's restroom, which all guests can use, was right beside us. It smelled pretty bad when you left the room, and the whole setup felt weird. When my mom asked to change rooms, they said “Maybe” and never got back to us. One more thing: at check-in they confirmed we'd be staying four nights, but they accidentally checked us out a day early and we had to sort it out.

The location and the large room were the only things this hotel had going for it. The service was alright at best. I don't see how it could be called a 4 star hotel when the facilities were old and disgusting, with little flies in the room and mould. Paint and wallpaper were chipping and peeling. They first tried to put us in the BASEMENT, which felt like offering guests a prison cell. Then they moved us to a room that only had a physical key instead of the usual key card. There were three of us but they gave us just one key, which made it difficult to work out who should keep it.

Our first-floor deluxe double was spotless and incredibly spacious compared with most London hotels I've stayed in. The staff were friendly and attentive, too. I can't comment on breakfast because I had planned a short stroll to Cafe Tropea in Russell Square Park, which made a perfect start the next day. The location was ideal for an overnight stay and a trip to the theatres, especially when travelling into Euston. I'll definitely be back soon. Highly recommend!
