Hampton by Hilton London Excel Hotel

I was impressed by how much the hotel exceeded my expectations, and it was great value for a London stay. The staff were helpful, polite, friendly and professional. Peter the maintance manager was especially lovely to chat with, so down to earth and approachable. My daughter thought he was absolutely lovely too. The next morning he recognised us and asked how her concert had gone, which had her buzzing. She took his suggestion to try the waffles at breakfast, and rated them 10/10. We'll definitely be back. Highly recommend.

If the price works for you, it's a good hotel and we'd come back. It's very clean and modern looking, though a little basic, and the view wasn't much. Parking cost 315 a day, which I guess is okay. The location would be ideal for anyone visiting the Excel, but for us it was a bit out of the way. The DLR got us into the city fairly quickly. The hotel staff were nice. At breakfast the staff looked stressed and weren't very approachable. There's a 40-minute limit, which I thought was unfair, even though it was enough time for us. I didn't see how they enforced it. Good luck getting my wife to stop while she's still working through a sausage.

BA booked me into this hotel after my flight was cancelled. The staff were kind and friendly, and the standard ensuite room was fairly spacious by London standards. I had a comfortable bed and good food. The DLR is only a few hundred metres away, but there's nothing around the hotel. I had to go all the way to the last stop, Beckton, to find a supermarket for contact lens solution. Not the hotel's fault, but it was still inconvenient to forget something or end up staying longer than expected.

The family room was ready with the sofa bed made up when we arrived, making it a perfect stop before seeing the wiggles. We enjoyed breakfast, and everyone we met on staff was friendly and polite. The station is nearby, with underground connections just a few stops away. A brilliant choice if you're going to the Excel center.
