The front desk team were excellent and very helpful, and WiFi is free. Those were about the only positives for me. I’m an IHG Member and have stayed at dozens of HI and HI Express hotels, and this one didn’t feel up to the brand. I wouldn’t choose it again. Parking is £10 a day, payable on arrival, but the lot is far too small. When the hotel is full, you may have to double park, use the kerb or park on double yellows. Sainsbury’s next door has a huge car park that’s never full, so the hotel should arrange more spaces. The room looked dated but was comfortable enough. Road noise wasn’t much of a problem, the bed was OK, and I slept reasonably well despite needing the loo three times a night. Tea and coffee were rationed, and the shower was tepid with fluctuating temperature. Breakfast was the worst hotel breakfast we’ve had. The orange juice was watered down, or there was a very odd apple juice. There were powdered scrambled eggs and no other egg choices. Toast came with butter but no margarine, honey squeezed from a sticky plastic tub into a paper sachet, or Marmite from a shared jar. They wouldn’t warm milk for cereal. The sausages were awful, bacon dry, bread stale, and there was hardly any fruit beyond canned summer fruits. Yogurt was in a shared bowl, and you’d be lucky if any was left unless you got there first. We came by train. From Walthamstow, it’s a fairly short bus ride on the 97, or the 158 goes to and from Stratford. The road itself wasn’t too bad.

Lucy and Suzy at reception were incredibly kind and helpful, and the breakfast was delicious. My room was cleaned every day. I was especially glad there was security keeping an eye on the parking area, since my van was full of tools. When every space was taken, Atilla was friendly and helped me find somewhere to park. I had a lovely week here and would gladly come back. Mark.

The room had lots of storage and shelves, and ours was on the third floor with a view. The shower was good and there was plenty of hot water. Breakfast was the usual Holiday Inn Express offering, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It’s a small to medium sized hotel in a convenient spot by the North Circular Road. The reception and café/bar area feels pleasant and spacious, and there’s a handy car park. Guests still pay £10 per night even with the discount. A bigger discount, or complimentary parking for IHG Rewards Club members, would be a welcome perk.

I’ve stayed here many times with my partner, and because of work we often check in late. Alana at reception always greets us with a lovely smile and is so helpful. I’ve watched her handle difficult people without losing her cool. The rooms need updating, and we’ve had some problems with ours, but Alana always sorts things out with a smile. She’s a real credit to the company.

The staff were genuinely friendly and tried to put things right, which was about the best part of our stay. The rest gave us plenty to laugh about later, preferably from another hotel. The bathroom had a drain smell we won’t forget. The windows wouldn’t close, so we got a breeze and a soundtrack of city noise, a bit like urban camping. Breakfast felt more like a test of patience than a meal, with food disappearing quickly and guests left to share their disappointment. There were three of us and only two duvets, adding a competitive edge to bedtime.
