Maldron Hotel Shoreditch London

The location is a real plus, around a 15-minute walk from Liverpool Street Station, with plenty of nearby buses. The brand-new hotel is tastefully decorated, and our room had a striking floor-to-ceiling glass wall and a lovely view. The bed area felt cramped, with very little room around the queen-size bed, though the mattress and pillows were extremely comfortable. The air conditioning worked well, the Smart TV was a nice addition, and the shower was good quality. The sink, though, was far too small and impractical for the space. The main problem was cleanliness, which wasn't good enough for a 4-star hotel. We found hairs on the floor and a towel when we arrived. When I told reception, they bafflingly suggested they "probably belonged to the cleaner." I asked to have the bathroom floor cleaned each morning for the rest of our three days, but it never happened. Hygiene like that is unacceptable. Breakfast was a decent quality English spread, but there were very few sweet options. The dining room was also managed rigidly: the buffet doors shut at 10:01 AM, with plenty of guests still seated. Tourists who arrived just two minutes late had to beg for service. The hotel looks modern and attractive, but the service and hygiene were extremely poor for the price and category.

Our room had a nice view, and the hotel was in a quiet, convenient area. The furniture looked new, the room was very clean, and we heard no noise from the street or other rooms. There were a few practical issues: the double room had no closet, just 4 hangers, so we had to leave clothes and other things on the desk. We were given only one toothbrush, and there wasn't enough space to hang towels in the bathroom. Heating was centralized, so we had to accept the hotel's setting. On our last day we were really cold, but there was no thermometer and we didn't mention it since the stay was nearly over.

We got an upgrade when we arrived, which was great. The room was clean, the bed very comfortable, and the upgrade came with drinks, snacks, a robe and slippers. The front desk lady was really friendly. The location is good, close to Liverpool Street Station, and we enjoyed the buffet breakfast, though it could've had more sweet choices. There was one real disappointment with room service on the first night. The website said the £5 tray charge would be waived on orders over £35. We ordered about £75 worth, but were still charged. Some items were missing, and we couldn't reach the front desk by phone, so we went down. At first they didn't believe anything was missing and said the waiver wasn't true. They later checked, acknowledged the missing food, and sent our order up again with the missing items. But the food we'd received first time was lukewarm at best. Not a good experience, and I wouldn't recommend room service. Apart from that, a pretty good stay for the room, sleep and breakfast.

The three of us came for a girls' trip and stayed two nights. It's a great base for the city, about a 10/15 minute walk from Liverpool Street station. Staff were so friendly and helpful, and they gave us late checkout for free when we asked, which was a lovely touch. Thanks to everyone who helped us. We really can't recommend the place enough and will definitely be back! ❤️
