On my return to London just before Christmas in 2018, I booked a comfortable ground-floor room with a private bath for under $100 a night. I first stayed at Merlyn Court on my first trip to Europe in 1971, so I was glad to find it was still open. The bed was large and very comfortable. There was no TV, and wireless was available only in reception. I was just there to sleep, though, and actually liked the break from Trump news back home. Breakfast was toast, marmalade, and coffee. Guests could bring other breakfast food from the Marks and Spencer Food Hall at the end of the street. The manager, Luci, was extremely helpful and knew her way around the city. Good value for money and a pleasant return to a wonderful city.

I liked the area a lot. The tube was close, there were lots of places to eat, and the street outside the hotel was quiet. The room was nice and the staff welcoming. The bed felt a bit hard to me, but it wasn't a problem. I was very happy with my stay.

A nice lady runs this little hotel near Earl's Court underground station. Its location is excellent: the Underground runs straight to and from Heathrow Airport, and the District line gets you to the City quickly enough. The rest feels a bit homemade, and the interior is... interesting. A piece of wood props up the window. The Wi-Fi only covers reception, and breakfast is a cup of coffee with a couple of slices of toast. You're allowed to bring your own yoghurt and other things, though. A nice place if you want experiences more than luxury.

For £50 a night during my stay, I had a bed and an ensuite bathroom, and could just reach the Wi-Fi in reception. It's a very underrated place, especially for solo travellers, and adequately equipped. I mostly skipped breakfast there. The money I saved on the room let me get breakfast at the nearby Over Under, among plenty of other options.

For a very reasonable price, Merlyn Court Hotel is a safe, quiet, comfortable place to spend the night. The service and cleanliness were good, and it's centrally located. The ownership in particular made it feel warm and friendly. I honestly plan to come back.
