Mermaid Suite Hotel

The room had a comfortable bed and was clean, with a TV, kettle, and ensuite bathroom. The gentleman at the desk was very friendly. You're just around the corner from Bond Street and Oxford Street. It's a little outdated and definitely budget accommodation rather than luxury, but that gives it some charm and didn't bother me.

The location is great, but the hotel was incredibly dirty, disgusting to a level you can't imagine. These are pictures from check-in, before we had used anything. There was dust and other people's hair inside the bed sheets, and I could add more examples. It looked as if no one had ever cleaned the rooms.

The man at reception was lovely when he checked us in. He noticed my Mum was on crutches and quietly moved us to a room right by reception, which was much easier for her to reach. I'd missed the fact that there was no lift, so I was grateful he handled it so sweetly. The room was clean and spacious, with comfy beds, and the Yorkshire Tea bags were a big yes from my Mum 😂. The location is great too, with a bus stop around the corner, the underground a short walk away, and plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. Really nice room, and we'll definitely come back.

For central London, it was good value, but the lack of privacy made the room feel depressing. People in the restaurant and on the opposite street could see in, so I had to keep the blinds fully closed, and there were no net curtains. That meant no natural light, just the poor artificial lights above the bed. I had to stay fully dressed, even after a shower, when I wanted to do my make-up, dry my hair, and get dressed at my own pace. The beds were small, hard singles. They supplied coffee and a kettle, but not even teaspoons.
