The staff were polite and accommodating throughout, but two nights was quite enough for us. The hotel was conveniently placed, about a 12-minute walk from Baker Street Underground and Marylebone Rail Station. The room, though, looked nothing like the advertised pictures, which felt very misleading. We had a twin room with sheets that didn’t fit the beds. Big pictures on the walls made the cramped space feel even more overwhelming, and the furniture looked second-hand, not glamorous or comfortable. Cleanliness was poor too: there were ants in the bathroom on our first night, and the bedding and room didn’t feel up to standard. The bathroom was especially bad. The shower had to be held by hand, its door wouldn’t shut properly and water flooded the floor, and the side of the bath was broken. There was no bath mat, which felt like a health and safety concern. We got only one towel each, with no smaller towels, and had to keep asking for toilet rolls and tea supplies. Noise from upstairs was awful, especially the toilet flushing, which sounded like an explosion each time. The room window also didn’t open properly and didn’t seem safe in case of a fire.

The room wasn’t ready when we arrived early yesterday, so we left our bags. It was very hot, and I’d booked a restaurant for 7pm. When we came back, we had to climb eight flights of stairs to the top room because there’s no lift. The electric fan didn’t work, and the phone didn’t work either, so I went back down to reception. They replaced it with a smaller fan and insisted on showing me how to use it. Then we went to shower before heading out, only to find there were no towels. I had to report that too and wait another 10 minutes. The sink tap was dripping, the shower went from warm to freezing, and the bedding didn’t fit the bed. It wasn’t worth the price. A very disappointing stay, I’d avoid this hotel.

The price and location are great, and the room was small as expected. I’d give it about 2.5 stars, though, because the cleanliness was such a problem that we nearly decided not to stay. There were no mattress or pillow protectors. The sheet was too small to tuck in, so you could easily wake up on the mattress, and the duvet was mattress-sized, damaged, and wouldn’t fasten. Worst of all, the bedding was covered in hair and stains. I counted as many as 10 hairs before giving up. We covered the pillows with our own shirts, asked for two sheets to wrap around the mattress, and slept in our clothes. Pretty gross. The shower was tiny as well. Good thing I’m slim!

The attic room shouldn’t be used. Carrying luggage on those stairs is a major hazard. The hotel is misrepresented in the advertising, and while it might have been opulent in the 1980s, it now needs a major refurbishment and a proper deep clean. There were holes in the flooring, a dripping tap, and no mattress or pillow protectors, just basic things you’d expect. The staff seemed nice at first, until we were woken in the morning by the "gastapo". She was rude and had no customer service. We had a horrible experience 😭!

The location is excellent, but they could do more about the lack of air conditioning and the staff hospitality. There’s no air conditioning or lift. I paid over £100 through trip.com. I’m not sure how other hotels compare, but I’d suggest using trusted booking sites and avoiding places like this.
