Park Grand Hyde Park

The staff were really nice, and the location just down the road from Paddington Station worked well. The TV was a good size, and the room seemed decent for a young couple mainly sleeping there and having breakfast. The bathroom, though, was pretty small. Breakfast choices were limited and the food could be cold; the toaster was slow too, though that didn't bother us much. I hope this helps, and I'd come back.

Breakfast was good, with plenty to choose from, continental through to a full breakfast, though it took a while to get tea and coffee. The stay itself was awful. We were in room 014 downstairs, which was stuffy, with no air con. The window handle was broken, and outside it was a close-up view of a shed and artificial grass covered in pigeon poo. The bathroom sink was cracked all over, part of the shower head was missing, and water flooded the floor because the glass panel was too small and the shower head wouldn't stay put. The mattress was lumpy and uncomfortable, and there were stains on the lampshades and marks on the carpet and walls. In the corridor, the walls had black marks and the carpet around a floor hatch was coming apart. The place badly needs maintenance and updating. The lobby and waiting area looked regal, which I liked, but we waited 15 minutes to check in because the room wasn't ready, as we'd arrived early. They stored our bags, and later said the porter would take them up. I wouldn't recommend it or stay again. This is nowhere near a four or five star hotel, maybe one star if that.

The rooms were in poor repair: the shower hose was broken, its door was coming off the hinges, there was a persistent bad smell, and the air conditioning didn't work. The first room was tiny, with neighboring windows looking straight in, so we couldn't use the curtains. It also didn't match the booking photos or description, and the bathroom was too cramped. After I asked to move, the replacement was in nearly the same condition, and had bed bugs. I was bitten all over and became ill. Despite this health risk, I wasn't offered a clean, habitable room, and the air conditioning was still broken. The key stopped working every day, so I had to go to reception to reactivate it whenever I left. There was no elevator, and all the interior doors made access difficult. Breakfast was well below an acceptable standard. I returned home with medical problems from the bed bug exposure.

I called three times from my international line, trying both reception and reservations, and each time someone picked up and hung up straight away. All I wanted was to add my husband to the booking. Each call cost me a dollar. Glad I found this out before the stay. I'm definitely cancelling.
