We left Park Hotel Ilford immediately and didn't stay even a minute. We arrived around 2:00 a.m. on 26 January after a long trip, and there was a violent argument outside, with shouting and aggressive behaviour. It felt unsafe before we even went in. Inside, the corridors smelled strongly and unpleasantly, suggesting serious hygiene problems. The hotel charged a £100 deposit straight away, before providing proper accommodation and without a clear explanation. The room was unfit to stay in: the walls and wallpaper were dirty and stained, the bedding smelled repulsive, and the condition was so bad I couldn't even sit on the bed. Staff showed us two other rooms they said were better, but they were just as unacceptable and far below any reasonable standard. We told them we couldn't stay, and the whole situation caused extreme stress. I was at the limit emotionally because of the surroundings, room, and atmosphere. Booking.com refunded just £10, and the hotel still hasn't returned the £100 deposit, charging us for a room that was unsafe, unhygienic, and never used. This caused serious distress and ruined our trip. Keeping the deposit in these circumstances is irresponsible, unethical, and unacceptable. I warn other travellers, especially anyone arriving late at night. I'll pursue formal complaints and financial dispute procedures.

I can't recommend this hotel. The £100 deposit wasn't mentioned in the booking details, and when I arrived with my wife and four-year-old son, my card's online limit had run out. Staff wouldn't let me check in, then kept us waiting at reception for three hours. They refused when I offered the deposit in cash. You don't get the deposit back after checking out, and they didn't even provide a hotel plate for heating food.

The deposit issue has been sorted, and I have to say the room is nice. The cleaning lady was kind and did a very clean job of my room. Earlier, I was told the deposit would arrive within at least five working days, but after seven days I still hadn't received it. I said I'd change my review once it came back.

The staff were caring and provided very good customer service. I had a spacious room with a pretty view, and the breakfast was generous and delicious. The location is handy and well connected by public transport. I had a very pleasant stay at Park Hotel, facing beautiful Valentine's Park.

We paid the security deposit after booking through booking.com, then were shown a family room. It was large, with a double bed and two singles, but the double was broken; there were dirty rags on top of the wardrobe, a filthy carpet, and splatters on the mirror. Reception helped us move to another family room, which seemed brighter at first, but it had several mouse poison boxes. Luckily, our autistic son was staying with his grandparent that night. We also got several bug bites on our legs during the short time there. The hotel said they couldn't refund us immediately and that we'd need to go through booking.com. They said the deposit would take seven days to return, even though we'd arrived only 20 minutes earlier. They offered to move us to their sister hotel, rated one star higher, at no extra charge. We declined because it was 9 p.m. and couldn't be sure the same thing wouldn't happen there. For nearly £50 a night, I'd expect some level of cleanliness, without mouse boxes in the rooms. If I could give zero stars, I would.
