We left as soon as we could find somewhere else to stay. The rooms were shabby and dusty, the road noise never stopped, and none of them felt cozy. The back room looked onto the same alley we had walked through and smelled of the bins there; the front rooms weren’t much better. The property sits above shops on a main road. To reach it, we had to use an alley with broken paving and bins, and the whole area smelled strongly of fish and blood from the fishmongers and butchers. There were maggots and flies everywhere. We needed photo ID before the owner would let us in, then got the door codes and were shown upstairs. Bags were piled on the stairs. We were offered three rooms, but the owner was abrupt and unfriendly throughout. The place was a mess. Avoid it.

Breakfast was a lovely start to each day, with fresh, good-quality ingredients, and the bed was so comfortable I slept really well. The rooms were spotless and nicely decorated, and they were genuinely quiet and cosy. I felt at home from the minute I arrived, thanks to the warm welcome and peaceful atmosphere at Quiet Cosy Rooms. There were thoughtful personal touches throughout, and the care really made this B&B stand out. I’d happily come back. It’s a great choice if you want a quiet break and attentive service.

There was no heating, so I had to stay in my jacket, and the only bedding was one flimsy sheet. The TV had no working channels because there was no aerial. From the neighbouring room, music and shouting went on until 3am, so I eventually got up and booked a room at the Travelodge around the corner. The entrance is down a back alley, with no clear sign showing which door to use. I had to contact the owner, who was very abrupt. There’s no staff on site. You go up a metal staircase and collect the keys from a wall safe, using codes sent by email. It looked clean inside, but everything was very cheap and only the bare minimum was provided. There was also a strong smell of marijuana mixed with fried chicken from the shop below. I wouldn’t come back, and I’d tell others not to spend their money here. I’ve been on remand at Her Majesty’s pleasure, and even that was cosier than this dump.

I cancelled because I didn’t feel safe, especially after noticing what seemed to me to be serious fire safety problems. There was no smoke or fire detector in the room, I couldn’t see any extinguishers, the gaps and smoke seals around the doors didn’t look adequate, and there was no fire escape plan in the room or on the landing. I’ve dealt with fires before and have fire safety training, so I couldn’t stay without a plan in place. The room wasn’t very clean either, though the room itself wasn’t too bad. The description also said there was a 24-hour desk and private parking, but neither matched what I found. There was no desk, just a key safe, which made me worry that a previous guest could come back, get the key and enter the room. I was told to park in a dark alley where I could see drug dealers and drug users. When I explained I didn’t dare leave my vehicle there, Cosy rooms said they don’t advertise parking, even though the advert clearly said “private parking.” Breakfast was meant to be included, but as I understood it, that meant a few wrapped croissants in the room. I explained to Cosy rooms why I couldn’t stay and politely asked for a refund, but was told no rudely. It didn’t live up to my expectations and I wouldn’t recommend it. If they fixed a few things and made the description accurate, people would at least know what to expect.

The bathroom gets the one star, and that’s about it. The place and sheets weren’t clean, and the room was extremely small, nothing like the picture. I wouldn’t stay again. I didn’t take many photos, my partner booked the place and those are the only ones I got.
