Roland House Apartments

For London, the price is very reasonable, so I don't understand the 3.2/5 rating. I'd put it much closer to 4.5 or even higher. The staff were friendly, the WiFi worked great, and the room and bathroom were spacious, clean, warm and fully functional. There are a few drawbacks: the kitchen is tiny and only has basic equipment, the kettle was hard to reach, and there's not much cleaning gear. The location is good, with a bus stop right next door and South Kensington station about a 10-minute walk away. You can also walk to Notting Hill, Hyde Park and even Paddington. At that price, it's hard to expect more.

The rooms themselves were fantastic, but the staff ruined the experience for me. Apart from the woman who helped me book when I arrived, who was an absolute credit to her profession, they were rude and arrogant and didn't seem to care about being there. The rules say no guests after 8pm, but staff seemed to take pleasure in turning guests away around lunchtime!

The location is handy, with Gloucester Road tube station a 7-8 minute walk away and cafes, markets and other useful places nearby. The neighbourhood is quiet and pleasant. Staff were polite, though not especially warm or friendly. Even basic greetings like “Good morning” or “Good evening” were missing. Our room looked just like the pictures and had a nice, spacious layout. It was generally clean when we arrived, but it wasn't serviced at all during our five-day stay, which surprised us since most hotels clean rooms every 2-3 days. When we asked for fresh towels, reception said we could collect them from the gym downstairs. There was a kettle, but it would've been nice to have tea or coffee as well. The windows let in noise and cold, which was uncomfortable. For the location and price, it's okay and a decent place if you just need somewhere comfortable to stay.

We stayed for five nights as a family, and it was one of our most memorable trips. The window had a beautiful view, and we saw some fireworks one day. Getting around was easy: Gloucester Road underground station is within walking distance, as are the Thames River walk, Kensington Palace, Royal Albert Hall, and the Science and Natural History museums. The room had a kitchenette with a microwave, mini fridge, kettle, basic utensils and dishwashing soap. There's free laundry, though you need to buy your own detergent, plus a gym, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. We'd definitely stay here again if we visit London.
