I booked a basic single room for a friend in difficulty earlier this week, at about 9pm and with less than an hour’s notice. The room wasn’t anything special, as I expected for the relatively low price, but it did the job: my friend could have a bath and wash some clothes. What stayed with me was the kindness, helpfulness and genuine humanity of the staff, especially Ahmed. I spoke with them several times by phone because my friend had no phone and needed help. Thank you so much.

We’ve stayed here for several years when coming to the Masters Snooker, and the friendly staff have always been helpful. The hotel is ideally placed for Alexander Palace, and the free car park is a bonus. It’s in a lively part of North London, close to lots of bars and restaurants. The rooms are good and very clean. We stayed for two nights this time.

The room was very small for the price, though I suppose that’s London. I’m unsure about the security: in the early hours, someone got in from the street and tried everyone’s door. The police were eventually called once this came to light. The area is okay, with local amenities easy to reach. If you’re going to the Ally Pally, it’s ideally placed, only a 10-15 minute walk away.

Good location, but my room was freezing, with no heating and a gap in the window. The water wasn’t very hot either.

The staff were really nice and the stay was decent overall. But after two nights in a third-floor room with roof windows, I had bug bites on my body.
