Rossmore Hotel

Breakfast came with the room and had a hot buffet, cereals, juice and toast cooked by the kitchen staff and brought to the table. The room was clean and comfortable, with two single beds, tea and coffee facilities, and a large bathroom with a sink, shower and toilet. The furniture looked dated and worn, but it still worked fine. The soap dispenser was empty, though I bring my own toiletries, so that wasn’t a problem. Check-in and checkout were straightforward, reception was open 24 hours, and there was ample free parking. Staff were welcoming, and the hotel was large with comfortable rooms at a reasonable price. I had an enjoyable, comfortable stay and would gladly return.

We stayed for more than a month and had problem after problem in our room, while staff refused to help or put things right. The hotel had an unpleasant strong smell of curry and sweat. Our room was misleading: it was boiling when we arrived because the heater was broken and couldn’t be turned off. There was dried gum and staining on the walls, dirty floors, flickering bulbs that were never fixed, and a broken bathroom door lock. The shower leaked at the bottom, so we kept putting down a towel. Its head was clogged with very low pressure, and the water swung between boiling hot and freezing. Reception staff were unhelpful when we reported it. At night and into the early morning, a rat kept running around on our floorboards. Staff denied it was a rat and said the hotel was clean. They changed our duvet and said they’d given us clean towels, but the towels were stained, so we bought our own. The flimsy bed was extremely uncomfortable, and my partner got cramps all over his body. We both struggled to sleep. The lamp, hair dryer and kettle were there for guests, but none worked. Problems just kept piling up. Staff and management were rude and seemed not to care about customers. They put staff before guests, and it showed. Priyanka at reception was particularly rude, had a lot of attitude, lied, insisted she was always right and wouldn’t consider our problems. I could go on. I really don’t recommend this hotel. Avoid it.

Free parking was a plus, but the stay was poor. The room hadn’t been cleaned properly, with dead bugs on the windowsill. The shower drain was blocked, so water overflowed the cubicle, and when we tried to get help, staff offered no solution. The mattress was hard, there was no iron in the room, and communication and customer service at reception were very poor. Only useful for a quick emergency night, at most.

The breakfast was nice, with scrambled and fried eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, rashers, sausages, toast, juice and cereals. It was the same every day, though, and some more variety would be good. Reception staff were fantastic when my flight was delayed by over five hours, and housekeeping showed up daily to clean the room, though they could have been more thorough. Transport links are excellent. I stayed in room 26, though I can’t say whether the others are similar. There were stains on the walls, cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and very poor shower pressure, so even a quick shower took longer. The room needs updating and repainting.
