Simple Stay

After one night here, I was bitten all over by bed bugs. The marks took months to go away. A severe infestation. Stay away if you know what’s good for you.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and I felt safe and comfortable during my short stay. My room was clean, with a great modern bathroom, and the fridge tucked into the small walk-in wardrobe was handy on warm days. The area isn’t the best, but Woolwich station is just three minutes away, with the Elizabeth line taking you to Central London in a short train ride. The hotel entrance is on the side of the building, opposite Woolwich Arsenal Station.

The bathroom was lovely, but the room itself was a letdown for the price. It had a window and a small fan, and it was so hard to cool down that sleeping felt nearly impossible. There were holes in the walls, stains on the sofa bed and plenty of hair in the bathroom, which isn’t what I expect in a freshly prepared room. Things had already gone badly when we arrived late on a Friday, my friend and I both women and keen to find the hotel quickly. Reception was extremely unhelpful on the phone. I had to repeat and spell my name several times so they could find the booking, then the person hung up on me. Frustrating and appalling service. All in all, very disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend it or stay again.

The small balcony gave me a quiet place to sit and some ventilation, which was welcome. I liked the spacious main room and its good decorative condition, though I wasn’t keen on all the ceiling spotlights. The bathroom was impressive, and a good soak felt great after a hot day walking. Tea, coffee, milk sachets and a kettle were provided for breakfast, basic but helpful. The kitchen screen panel was still a work in progress. The worst part was the window blinds, which really didn’t do the job.
