Smart Hyde Park Inn Hostel

The location and staff were great, but bed bugs and the tiny beds made my stay miserable. On my second night, I woke up covered in a lot of bites, even though I'd only just arrived in town. The itching bothered me throughout the trip. After I told the staff, they moved me to another room and let me use the laundry for free to wash all my clothes. I'm 1,85cm (6’1), and the beds were so small and narrow I couldn't lie straight. I got no decent sleep during the whole stay. The rooms also felt much smaller than the pictures and too cramped for six beds. Thank goodness I only booked three nights. Otherwise, I'd have moved elsewhere without hesitation.

I hadn't realized there were so many stairs, and it was a bit too far for me. I booked with z hotel instead, which was cheaper and so much nicer. The rooms here were tiny, and I've never slept in a bunk bed before. Since I had my own room, I expected it to be nicer. I wouldn't recommend this place.

I was here for just 24 hours between trips, before travelling to the USA. The location worked well for that: the subway is nearby, and there are shops and a McDonald’s close to the hotel. The reception staff were a real plus. They were kind and helpful, especially Carolina and Ghazi, who made us feel welcome and helped whenever we needed anything. The rooms, though, felt crowded and short on space, which made comfort and cleanliness a bit of a challenge. There were some unpleasant smells too. For a brief transit stop of a few hours, the location and friendly staff make this hostel suitable.

I've never left a negative review before, but this experience raised serious concerns about my safety from the first day. I was also concerned enough to record myself staying calm in case the staff member's reaction made things escalate. I found a card by my bed and returned it, thinking it was mine. Later, it seemed to belong to another guest. I asked only whether that guest had been charged or had returned another card, if they could confirm, so I could work out whether my card had been returned and whether I needed to replace it. I was willing to pay for a replacement. The staff member wouldn't give me this basic information, then suddenly called me “aggressive” without basis, something CCTV can verify. He said he could cancel my booking for the night whenever he wanted. It was already around 8 pm. He also talked about my situation with other guests in spanish and laughed about it in front of me. That was inappropriate and unprofessional, and again, in front of CCTV. I was left without access to my room and without the information I needed to make an informed decision. Then I was asked to pay for a replacement card, which I accepted, so I don't understand why there was such an emotional reaction to a random situation. My requests were limited to asking about the card and, when I arrived, whether I could change beds. I didn't behave inappropriately or ask for anything more. I travel often and have never had an interaction like this. I wasn't expecting luxury, just ordinary adult behaviour and basic respect. The whole thing showed a lack of maturity, professionalism, and appropriate customer care.
