Springfield Hotel London

The reception staff were polite and helpful, and the hotel's location is very convenient. But the room cleanliness and upkeep need attention. Our bathroom hadn't been cleaned and the carpet hadn't been vacuumed. For the price, I don't expect luxury, but I do expect a clean room and a properly maintained building. It's a shame, because the hotel is in a beautiful building on an attractive square. The experience reminded me of the sort of London accommodation from the 1960s.

The location was the one good thing, and breakfast was decent. We were glad we'd booked just one night. On arrival, there was nobody at reception. The woman meant to be there was locked in a room, and another guest had to get her out. I don't know what she was doing. The stairs were awful and the back patio was full of discarded furniture. In our room, the carpet was dirty and broken, and a third of the shower door was missing, so water spilled out and soaked it. The bathroom was tiny, the bed was horribly noisy and uncomfortable, and the heavy window was hard to move and did little to block the noise. Half-painted walls and a dangling TV cord added to the rundown feel.

The hotel's location may suit you depending on what you're doing, but nearly everything else disappointed us. We were trying to accommodate a child in a double room that was ridiculously small even for two adults. They eventually put in a small bed, but their system showed a different name and reservation number. Parking cost extra, as you'd expect in London, but the charges weren't explained honestly. The English breakfast had vegetables, but they weren't good, and the dining area was too small. There was no fan or ventilation in the room. With the window open, traffic noise was loud all night and we couldn't sleep properly. The room felt dingy, the bathroom was the smallest I've ever had in a stay, the shower pipe was bad, and the cupboard smelled. I wouldn't choose this hotel again.

The room was so cramped there was barely room to walk past with a bag or suitcase. The cold tap didn't work, neither did the central heating, and rain leaked through the ceiling. The fire exit was full of rubbish. The beds were terrible, made with several boxes underneath, and there were awful bedbugs. Everyone in our room was bitten every night; the itching was impossible to stop and caused rashes. I also wonder why the breakfast score is so high when most of those high ratings have no comments. Believe me, this place was a mess and ruined our trip.
