The Athenaeum Hotel & Residences

We'd booked the spa package directly with the hotel for our eighth anniversary. It covered an hour in the facilities, treatments, and cream tea. The downstairs spa is on the small side, but it felt intimate and relaxing, which suited us. They welcomed us with two glasses of juice, since we don't drink alcohol, and a chocolate dessert marked “Happy Anniversary.” The front desk team were warm and helpful when we arrived on Wednesday, and the day carried on just as nicely. Beth and Genesis gave us relaxing, professional treatments and took great care of us. Later, upstairs, we had cream tea with a choice of tea or coffee and two fresh scones each. The service was excellent throughout, and the package felt well worth the price. We'd recommend it for a special, relaxing occasion.

The lounge was a real help before our room was ready. We could relax and shower there, and had complimentary food and drinks both in the lounge and in our room. At check-in we were upgraded to a beautiful room, and housekeeping and the nightly wind-down were handled with great attention to detail. Our flight was delayed by a day because of the weather, but Sahil at the front desk made sure we could still have the same room we'd booked. The concierge were kind and helpful, and the doormen and bellhops were friendly, quick, and attentive with our bags. We hardly waited for anything. Athena at the bar made happy hour lovely, and the complimentary evening drinks and food were a thoughtful touch. Everyone we met made us feel cared for. We can't recommend the hotel enough.

We've visited the spa a few times and eaten at the restaurant, and I'll keep coming back. Yesterday we were there for a birthday and arrived a little late, but nobody rushed us. The spa was relaxing from beginning to end. I didn't catch our therapists' names, but everyone we dealt with was lovely. We were booked for 10am. Afterwards, Emmie looked after us in the restaurant and surprised us with birthday treats. She was so kind and friendly, and really made our day. I live nearby and haven't stayed overnight, but the service makes me think I'd be happy to. Looking forward to coming back.

We've stayed here several times over the years and have always had a great experience. The staff are friendly and attentive, the rooms are beautiful, and breakfast is delicious, so it's worth booking a rate that includes it. The afternoon tea is artfully made and holds its own against London's best. You're centrally located, with easy access to places on foot or by tube. Lovely parks are just steps away, and Shepherd's Market is right behind the hotel with cafes, pubs, and restaurants. Do yourself a favor and stay here.
