The Bedford was a fun place for the acrylic painting event by Tiperley, and thank you to Ross for that. The venue has loads of rooms and little nooks, like a Tardis. I came with a friend for dinner beforehand. The food was decent, though the lamb souvlaki only came with three small skewers, too much tzatziki and plain green salad. More variety and colour would have made it less one-note. My friend’s fish and chips were let down by overcooked chips and batter. Arnie, Andrew and Adam were attentive and friendly without hovering, and made sure I felt comfortable staying after my friend left. I felt safe on my own. I’d come back for another event, maybe one of the comedy club nights.

The Bedford didn’t disappoint. It’s got lovely drinks, friendly staff and an old-time feel that still feels current. My parents met in the space above the pub at a dance in 1962. I was born in London and lived in Balham until moving to Canada in 1975, and I’d always wanted to visit The Bedford Pub. On a recent trip, I took my husband to see our old house, the pub, relatives and London’s tourist spots. The photo is with my aunt and uncle, who still live in our old Balham home. 🇬🇧🥰

Cosima and her band were the highlight, though all three acts brought something different and were very good. The organiser and presenter was lovely too, and made the evening feel welcoming and well put together. The Bedford is a beautiful venue, full of character. The stage and lighting gave the live music a lovely intimate feel. I had a genuinely fun night and would happily return for another event. Great setting if you enjoy live music.

I was really disappointed. This used to be one of my favourite pubs, but the doorman turned us away for being too drunk when we were only going in for our second drink. We couldn’t meet up with our friends for our birthday. He seemed to have a chip on his shoulder and, for no good reason, was turning away business.

We ate in the salon room, which is a really nice space, and the servers were very attentive. The food was amazing. They were out of ribs, but the confit duck was a great alternative. With the Tuesday 50% offer, it was extremely good value.
