We had a very enjoyable Sunday Roast outside in the beer garden, helped by the good weather. The portions were ample and tasty, and the staff were polite, friendly and helpful. The menu has beef, pork belly, chicken and lamb, all with roast potatoes, vegetables, gratin and gravy. The gratin could have been better, but I’ll certainly visit again.

The rooms were comfortable and lovely, and they provided shower gel and shampoo. It was easy to find, on a quiet road, so we had no noise overnight even with the windows open. Since the pub was closed, they sent us a message the day before with instructions for getting into the rooms. Thanks for letting us check in a little earlier than planned, we really appreciated it.

This is about the restaurant, not the rooms, which we didn’t try. We came for Sunday roast and found it okay, though honestly underwhelming. The dry aged beef was a bit too raw for me, and the Yorkshire puddings on every plate were thoroughly burnt, as the pictures show. At £30 a plate, I think the food needs a lot of work. Based on my visit today, I sadly wouldn’t recommend it.

This is only about the restaurant. I was invited for Sunday lunch, and it was an awful experience. Service was very slow, both getting drinks and placing our food order. One guest asked for a pint of coke and got a 200ml bottle instead. We waited well over an hour for the food, while a table that arrived after us was served much earlier. The roast itself was a letdown: bland, a bit burnt, and not generous at all for at least £27+ per plate. My partner and I ordered the same dish. I got exactly one strip of carrot, and he got none. Carrots are so cheap, so why serve a Sunday roast with just one strip? There was one very small gravy jug for six adult meals, smaller than a standard teacup. When I asked for more, the waiter seemed confused and said he’d already brought gravy, as though a teaspoon each would do. He did bring another jug in the end, which I appreciated. It had less flavor than what you generally get at a toby carvery, despite costing much more, giving you much less, and taking much longer. I wouldn’t recommend it.
