The Commongate Hotel

We stayed again between the 13th and 15th, and the service was exceptional as ever. The staff are kind and helpful, especially Ramon, Sreeja and Anna. We asked for a table before heading out to do our business, and when we came back, Ramon had somehow got one into the room for us. The room was nice and spacious, and I can’t fault it. I’d come back just for the staff. 10/10, would recommend.

It’s nice for what it is, and it doesn’t oversell itself. The rooms were clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I did hear more road noise than I’d have liked.

We only needed somewhere for one night, and this simple hotel did the job. Check-in took about five minutes, and staff were always at the desk to let us in and out. I’d worried we might be left outside late after reading some reviews, but we were welcomed straight away. Our double booking seemed to have been upgraded to a double deluxe, which was a nice surprise. The bed and towels were clean, and we slept well. I was a little unsure about leaving the key at the desk, but then realised they use actual keys rather than cards, so replacing lost ones must be a hassle. No complaints, a handy last-minute place to stay.

We were meant to stay here for New Year’s Eve, but my pregnant wife was advised by her doctor not to fly. Even though the booking was non-refundable, the hotel understood and let us cancel without a fee. After losing so much on our plane tickets, that was a real relief for us and our wallets. Thanks to the whole team. We’ll definitely book here next time we’re in the UK.
