The Crown Pub & Guesthouse

Serena and her team were amazing, and we’ll definitely come back. The pub has two very different moods: The Crown is a lively East London boozer, while the quieter, intimate 1/2 Crown bar is great for socialising. We stayed at the end of last weekend for my birthday long weekend with my family, and it was a treat. The young man at check-in welcomed us warmly, was friendly and polite, and even carried our bags to our room and our daughter’s room. Our double room was spotless and had a big bathtub, just heavenly. Housekeeping were a lovely little group, helpful and attentive. A fantastic landlady, great staff, and a brilliant venue.

I’d happily stay overnight again. My sister’s 50th birthday at The Crown meant quite a bit of travel for us, and I always love the atmosphere there. The staff are wonderful and welcoming. It was my partner’s and my first time staying the night, and after a great evening downstairs, it was lovely to head up to a room that felt so relaxing. The styling was great, everything was modern and provided what we needed, and the beds were really comfortable. I’d absolutely recommend it. Serena was so warm and lovely to talk to at the end of the night.

There are loads of different rooms and garden areas here, each with its own feel. It’s a huge pub, and Natalie behind the bar was the loveliest host for a fun evening. Cheers to her. Definitely worth stopping by!

I didn’t feel safe here as a woman travelling alone, and I wouldn’t book ahead. To reach the room, you have to pass through a pub where most of the people drinking were men. The side gate could be reached from outside to turn its handle, which someone did right in front of me. The entry code was also visible to people sitting outside at the bar, beside the door that opens into the pub. A pub customer could go upstairs towards the rooms, and anyone passing by could open the gate and follow you into the alley. There’s no concierge or security. The listing didn’t mention that guests enter through a working pub. I explained my safety concerns to The Crown pub, but they refused to refund me then and still haven’t done so. I’d flown in from abroad and had to scramble to find another hotel at 6pm.
