The Fielding Hotel

I didn't feel safe as a solo traveller, especially after interacting with the manager. The room doors didn't seem to lock securely from the inside and had no chain. There was no lift and no food available either. The fixtures and fittings felt cheap and tired, and I don't think this was good value for money. I've stayed in much nicer hotels nearby for the same price or less, so read reviews carefully before booking. I wouldn't rate this as a four-star hotel. Two or three stars seems more in line with similar places around Kings Cross and Euston.

It's a small hotel, but it had what we needed. The room was tidy and clean, the beds were lovely and comfortable, and the staff were very helpful and accommodating. There's no lift, so the stairs could be a problem if you have mobility issues. We'd definitely stay again for the location, which is perfect for the Savoy theatre and Covent Garden.

We stayed in Flat 1 rather than the hotel, and it worked really well for us. It’s an older, quirky place with loads of character, and having a kitchen in such a great spot was a real bonus. Tesco Extra and Sainsbury Local are both close by in opposite directions. The kitchen has a small fridge, dishwasher, microwave, hob, little oven, and most of the cookware you’d need. There’s also a larger dining area that can be used for different things. The washer dryer is tucked behind a cupboard door in the main bedroom, works well, and there was plenty of powder. Handy to set it going while you’re out. The layout takes a bit of getting used to. The shower is in the main bedroom, but it’s big enough that water doesn’t get into the bedroom. The toilet is in the hall between that room and the lounge, with doors separating it from both. There isn’t really room for two suitcases in the main bedroom, so one may need to go in the lounge. The double bed is firm but comfortable, the heating is great, and it’s surprisingly quiet. I slept so well. If you use both sofa beds, you may need to shift the single chair around, but it works.

The suite was spacious enough and had a nice bathroom, and the staff were kind and accommodating. The price was more than reasonable, and the hotel is tucked away off the main roads in a fantastic neighborhood. The room itself was clean, though the heavy stains on the carpet and couch, scuffed walls, and threadbare patches on the curtains made it look dirty. It wouldn’t take much work to make this a fantastic hotel, and then we’d happily pay more to stay. As it is, we’d still recommend it, with quite a few caveats about the room condition.
