The Fountain

We booked a family stay here for December 2025, but the room was nothing like the Booking.com listing and was completely unacceptable. It was tiny and dark, faced a ground-floor side yard, and the window barely opened. The room was dirty, damp, mouldy, smelled strongly of smoke, and looked like it had been a smoking room before. Moisture and mould affected the walls and carpet, and there was constant engine noise outside. We couldn’t stay there with our family and left straight away. At reception, staff acknowledged the problem and promised a refund because the hotel had no suitable alternative room. They said the manager only had to send Booking.com a short written confirmation. That was over six months ago. Since then, I’ve sent more than 70 emails and called the hotel about 20 times. Booking.com has also tried to reach them around 30 times, all without success. The manager remains unreachable, and the refund of around £300 still hasn’t been processed. The room’s condition was bad, but the complete lack of communication and accountability afterwards was even more disappointing. It’s sad that there are still places where a hotel can be run in such an uncivilized and unprofessional way. I’d strongly advise future guests to think carefully before booking here!
