The Langham London

I’m still here, but I already have to say this is one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in. The housekeeping and concierge teams have impressed me most. I had an urgent personal task to sort out, and they helped within minutes so I could get back to work. My room had been in a bit of a state. When I returned later, it was stunning, so tidy and organized. Walking in was honestly a breath of fresh air. The service has been impeccable. Thank you!!

This was supposed to be a special birthday stay at The Langham, but I came away more frustrated than pampered. I’ve stayed at luxury hotels in London and abroad, and this didn’t meet the standard I expected from a historic five-star place. The Langham Burger was fantastic, cooked perfectly and probably the best part of the stay. Breakfast was much less impressive. The hash browns and sausages were decent, but the bacon was tough, overcooked, and almost impossible to eat. At this level, even breakfast should be done well. More than anything, I lost sleep on both Wednesday and Thursday. At 3:00 AM each night, loud noises woke me. After I complained, I was offered another suite, but the Duty Manager took over 30 minutes to respond. In the end I had to leave my room and go down nine floors to reception to get an answer. I shouldn’t have had to track someone down in the middle of the night to deal with the noise. The building is beautiful and the burger was a win, but the poor breakfast, repeated disturbances, and slow response left The Langham short of its five-star reputation.

The food I tried was pretty good, though I only ordered room service and wished the menu had more choices. A few times I was overcharged or billed incorrectly for in-room dining, but the hotel fixed the errors quickly. Everything else was so lovely that I was willing to overlook it. This year I’ve been lucky enough to stay at the Langham twice, and both visits were incredible. The building and rooms are beautiful and luxurious, and it’s easy to walk to regents park and Oxford street, with lots of restaurants and cafes nearby. Service was outstanding. Everyone was pleasant, and most people used my name. The little touches made a real difference: they brought extra water when I’d finished the bottles, put my toiletries on a separate tray to keep them organized, and left fruit and candy for me.

When you come with a group, there isn’t really a place to sit, relax, and have a drink together apart from the pub or cocktail bar. The bar needs a booking and a minimum spend of £500. Hotels of this calibre usually have a guest lounge with a bar. I’d prepaid £140 for breakfast for both of us for two mornings as an add-on. I cancelled the breakfasts and was told by reservations I’d get a refund when leaving, but that didn’t happen. Instead, I was charged another £60 cancellation fee. So we paid £200 for breakfasts we didn’t have. I contacted the hotel, but they’ve refused to refund it.
