The Lord Milner

The Lady Milner room had quaint antique decor, and its modern bathroom was spotlessly clean. The hotel itself is well kept, with friendly service, on a pleasant little street. I stayed there for two nights on a solo work trip to London. A decent shower and reliable internet matter a lot to me, so these problems made the stay poor. The shower barely drained, and within minutes I was standing in ankle-deep water. The internet didn't work: the codes I was given didn't match any available networks, and the house network barely functioned. I could also clearly hear footsteps and plumbing when someone was staying upstairs. The double bed was two small beds pushed together. I know that's normal in European hotels, but I still find it uncomfortable and worth mentioning. I might have called the stay average if not for those significant, fixable issues. Coworkers who have stayed in the area have mentioned the Lime Tree Inn and The Orange Public House. I haven't stayed at either, so can't rate them, but you might consider those options too.

The location is perfect, and breakfast is served in the room and is good quality. But the room feels far too old and needs refurbishment. It didn't feel like a superior room at all. The shower didn't work properly, the WiFi was poor, the service was poor, and the lift doesn't reach the fourth floor. Reception isn't staffed around the clock, so after 23.00 you have to use your key to get in. That's not what I'd expect at this price.

The owner is very kind, the location is great, and the Victorian-appointed room felt quaint and charming. I'd stay again, just not during winter. Even with both wall-mounted heaters on, the room was very cold.

Handy spot for travelling between London and Gatwick, just two blocks from the station. The bathroom was a bit small, and the shower had little to no water pressure. Otherwise, no issues.
