The Mayfair Townhouse

The shower pressure nearly disappeared when I used hot water, though it was fine if I wanted a freezing shower. There wasn’t a bathroom outlet for the hair dryer either, so I had to plug it in by the door and dry my hair in the hallway. Strange setup for the price and five-star rating. We stayed one night during our travels, and the basic room was quaint, quiet, and cozy. The complimentary minibar snacks and drinks were a nice treat, and there was tea and coffee in the room. We arrived well before check-in, mainly hoping to leave our bags and head out. The front desk kindly took my number in case the room was ready before 3:00 pm, but nobody called. When we got back a little before 3, the room was ready and our bags had been sent up. I did wonder how long it had been ready, though I know early check-in isn’t guaranteed. It was a quiet place for the night, but we expected more for the five-star label and $$$ price.

Even with the late arrival caused by weather delays, the hotel welcomed me like a family home. Check-in was quick, with verification and a key issued without fuss. Breakfast in the morning was satisfying and personalized, and checkout was just as fast. Several local attractions are within walking distance. I didn’t have enough time to find anything to criticize. I’d bring my family or someone special here. Truly amazing.

The reception team seemed unable to sort out even basic problems, and the staff and hotel fell well short of what I’d expect from a five-star place. I wouldn’t stay again or recommend it. I booked for my boyfriend’s special birthday, but the experience was one letdown after another. The hotel had a reservation mix-up, not us, and left us waiting in the lobby for over an hour without clear updates. They offered no compensation or upgrade, then put us in a smaller room for the first night. We never got the price difference back. The room was below five-star standards, with a very dirty window. I asked twice to have it cleaned and was repeatedly told it would be handled, but nothing happened. At checkout, we weren’t given an invoice. I’ve emailed three times since and still haven’t had a reply. The service felt disorganized and unprofessional from the moment we arrived.

The Mayfair Townhouse worked very well for a long weekend with my son just after New Year. It’s in Mayfair, a short walk from Green Park underground station and within walking distance of Buckingham Palace, Old Bond Street, Regent Street, and plenty of restaurants and cafes. After a day out, the complimentary minibar was handy, with good quality local items. Our room was clean, luxurious, and spacious. Reception service was fantastic, and Solomon and Adam were both helpful with our early check-in and request for a higher floor. We’ll definitely be back.
