The Paramount Hotel

There was no room service, and over our three-day stay nobody checked in about cleaning, fresh towels or changed bedding. Reception was unattended day and night, so if anything went wrong, we were on our own. The room also had no fridge, microwave, desk or table, and not even basic cutlery. The shower was so cramped there was barely room to stand comfortably, and the curtain felt inappropriate and gave no privacy. The rooms in this two-star hotel are among the smallest I’ve seen in the UK. Booking.com doesn’t make the two-star rating clear.

We only had the room for one night, thank goodness. It looked nothing like the photos on Booking.com, and I was so disappointed I want some kind of refund. I knew it would be small, but with two of us there was barely space to move. It wasn’t worth the money, and I’d avoid the place. Our room was on the top floor, which isn’t accessible, so don’t book if you have mobility issues or can’t manage lots of stairs. The bathroom smelled awful and had mould; there were marks all over the walls. The Wi-Fi we were given only worked on the ground floor, not ours. Reception is open only from 3 to 8pm. We dropped off our things and went to sleep without checking the bathroom, then had nobody to complain to until 3pm the next day. The staff member who checked us in was nice, but there wasn’t anything else good to say. A big scam. Look at the pictures yourself and read all the reviews.

The room felt about the size of a bathroom, and I had one of the worst stays I can remember at Paramount hotel. I visited in December 2025. There was no ventilation, and a horrible urine-like smell came from the toilet. Perfume and everything else we tried didn’t help. The bed was right beside the toilet, and I felt like throwing up the whole time. I couldn’t sleep all night. Please consider another hotel, this place will give you trauma for life.

The bed was clean and comfortable, and the location was handy for the train station and shops. But our room looked nothing like the online photos. The place is battered and needs some TLC: paint was peeling, the carpet was torn, and duct tape was holding the bathroom light in place. The headboard wasn’t fixed down, so it shifted and banged every time we moved.
