We couldn’t get into the place without calling, and even then it took three calls. Once inside, light kept coming through the ill-fitting door from the hall all night, switching on and off. The mattress was practically nonexistent, with springs digging into us, and the pillow was flat as a pancake. The windows might as well not have been there either, since we heard everything happening in the street all night.

I was so disappointed. Don’t accept room 1 if you can help it. Calling it a room is a stretch, it’s basically a cupboard with a shower and what they call a bed at least 10 feet up. There are three panes of glass to stop you falling, and the street view is through a tiny window at bed height that you have to lean over to reach, risking a fall. The ladder is dangerous, and the only seating is one folding chair. There’s no TV, and the London Underground rumbles through the room every few minutes all night. When I texted the owner, he spoke to me like I was an idiot. I’ll never stay there again. Don’t expect a refund for his mistakes either, he lies big time to Booking.com staff.
