The staff were awesome as always, but the food has been well below par, or even a rip-off. I’m a local who comes to this pub often, and the food has been poor for three visits in a row. It seems there may be a new chef or management. Today was especially bad. We wanted a quick dinner after work. The a la carte food had been quite bad the last couple of times, so we tried the set menu instead. We ordered beet salad and mackerel pate for starters, then two “minute” steaks sold as steak and fries. The starters were okay, if a little small, but fair enough for a starter. The main arrived as one 6 oz steak cut in half and served as two portions. It was obvious. The set menu cost £19 per person. I’m not a big eater, but it was shocking that the chef thought we wouldn’t notice. We ended up having to cook dinner at home after eating at the pub. Don’t come here for food. There are better nearby options for a midweek dinner.
I’ve stayed here a few times while visiting family and always felt welcome. It’s a boutique hotel in a quiet London borough, with clean rooms, comfortable beds, and bathrooms with spacious showers. Towels warmers and toiletries are provided too. There’s a lively pub on the ground floor where locals and guests can get food and drinks. They sometimes hold events such as game nights and birthday parties. Amenities are nearby.
The Station is a welcoming pub, family friendly during the day and lively in the evening. It has a separate entrance for guests and is handy for Hither Green train station. Street parking only needs to be paid for between 10am and 12pm. All the staff were friendly, welcoming, and personable, especially the head chef. Service was excellent, and the food was great, particularly breakfast. We stayed in a “Cosy”. It lived up to the name but had enough room, and the tall windows let in plenty of daylight. We could’ve used a way to hang dresses and other items without folding them, and a removable shower extension alongside the fixed “rain shower” head would’ve been useful. Neither issue really detracted from our stay at The Station.
Mum had a lovely stay at the Station last weekend. Her room was bright, airy and quiet, with fresh sheets and handy coffee-making facilities. The shower was nice and big, though the bathroom was chilly, so the radiator needs fixing. Zach was especially charming and supportive, and even sorted out a few extra bits and pieces for her. The long-haired gentleman behind the bar was cheerful and helped her get fresh water. Thanks to everyone for a great stay.
The peppercorn sauce was the standout for me at The Station Hotel. I’ve tried plenty before, but this was the best I’ve tasted, and I even dipped my chips in it as well as having it with the perfectly cooked steak. I was there yesterday with my girlfriend Jade. Everyone was friendly and attentive, and the relaxed, comfortable pub atmosphere made us feel welcome. We had a brilliant time, and I’d recommend it to anyone nearby looking for a proper steak and really good sauce.
