The staff member handled the situation well, though they were badly outmatched and stayed back until the police arrived. I don’t blame the staff at all. Travelodge should have two night workers for a hotel this size, for everyone’s safety, but clearly that would cut into the millions they make. We barely slept because of a large, obnoxious group who had booked several rooms. They’d been banging doors and shouting in the communal areas throughout the afternoon, and it was still going on when we left for the evening. We hoped they’d be asleep when we got back. At 6:00am there was fighting in the hallways and smashing, banging and shouting in the room next to us, an all-out scrap involving around 10 people. It was a bad experience for guests and staff alike. The hotel is ideally located for local amenities, as many are. But there aren’t many staff, and with people cross-trained across departments, they’re hard to find when you need them.
We booked for a friend’s birthday celebrations nearby and had a fab night's sleep. Our room was very clean and stylish, and we got early check-in and a choice of room. We met friends for lunch a short walk away before heading to the celebrations. Check-out was super easy.
Everything else about the hotel was fantastic, and I’d certainly recommend it. The rooms and bathroom were very clean, tidy and welcoming. Unfortunately, the beds were quite uncomfortable for me. I woke up each morning with a very stiff, aching lower back, which doesn’t happen at home after sleeping.
It took me 20 minutes at reception to sort things out because the receptionist was confused about the check. The Customer Service team had failed to amend my booking, and only replied 14 days after my Arrival date, even though I’d sent the request three days before the booking. They admitted the mistake, then passed it around among staff instead of escalating it to a manager as I asked, probably trying to hide their late response. Travelodge is a cheap chain, but it isn’t worth the money you spend.
I was worried by the reviews saying the hotel was closed, but it was officially open when I stayed at the end of November. The staff were really friendly and helpful, especially Ellie, who checked us in and out. Our room was spacious and comfy. The location is great if you don’t mind being a bit further from central.
